Equal opportunity.

What we commit to, how it's built into the way we work, and what to do if you think we've fallen short.

Version 1.0 · July 2026

The commitment

RETAIN HEALTH is an equal opportunity firm. We source, assess, and represent candidates without regard to any protected characteristic, and we do not accept a search assignment that asks us to do otherwise — however the request is phrased.

Race · Color · Ethnicity · National origin · Ancestry
Sex · Gender · Gender identity or expression · Sexual orientation
Age · Religion or creed · Disability · Medical condition
Pregnancy, childbirth, or related conditions · Marital or family status
Immigration or citizenship status · Military or veteran status
Genetic information · Any other characteristic protected by federal, state, or local law

This applies to everything we do: who we approach, who we assess, who we advance, what we tell a client, and how we advise on an offer.

How it's built in, not just stated

A commitment that lives only in a paragraph is difficult to keep and impossible to check. Ours is built into the mechanics of how we assess people:

Candidates can ask to see their own assessment, correct anything factually wrong in it, ask to be represented without it, or ask us to delete it. Those rights are set out in full in our candidate notice.

What we ask of clients

We work on behalf of employers, and the standard runs in both directions. We will not screen for a protected characteristic at a client's request, whether stated directly or implied through a proxy — "someone who'll fit in with a young team," "no career gaps," "someone local to avoid relocation complications."

If a search requirement looks like a proxy for a protected characteristic, we'll raise it, explain why, and propose a job-related alternative that gets at the real underlying need. In our experience there almost always is one, and it usually produces better candidates.

If you think we've got it wrong

Tell us. Directly, and without going through anyone else. We would far rather hear that we handled something badly than find out later that someone walked away thinking so.

We'll acknowledge within two business days, look at the actual record of the assessment rather than our memory of it, and give you a written answer. If we were wrong, we'll say so plainly and tell you what we've changed.
